Well hello there!  Glad you could stop by!  I know, it has been awhile since our last robotic outing, but I promise not to disappoint.  First, let me say that this list took a lot longer to put together than the last list.  It is extremely hard to find music on the internet with robots singing in them.  If you type that into Google, Google returns a page asking if you were dropped on the head as a kid - no joke!

I guess I should also explain the accompanying image.  Do you guys remember that author we had called D Rock?  Not to be confused with Ad Rock.  Ad Rock is rad, while D Rock runs around the pacific shoreline in his tightie whities.  Well when D Rock is not messing with the marine life in the tide pools by his house he is making art.  And because this is a post about robots, I dived into his collection of robot themed pieces (there are more like this, I know, wtf!).  But if you want to know more about his art you can leave a comment on this post, or simply open your MSPaint program on your computer and make your own bat shit crazy drawings.  But more about D Rock at the end of this post, on to the music!

Alaska in Winter - The front man for this band’s bio is almost exactly like D Rock’s - just switch out Alaska for Colorado.  Just like Into The Wild, this guy went to Alaska and came back with robot’s singing about Berlin (well that’s not exactly how Into The Wild ended, but that would have been way less depressing).  This song came out in early 2008 and is pretty rad!

Alaska in Winter - Berlin Alaska In Winter - Holiday

School of Seven Bells - T-Pain isn’t the only one using Auto Tune.  Here is a great band that released the album Alpinisms in late 2008 on the record label Ghostly International.  I can’t think of a better record label name to represent this band’s sound.

School of Seven Bells - Chain School of Seven Bells - Alpinisms

Black Moth Super Rainbow - I was asking the other authors on the Muffin for some suggestions of songs for this post and Bootsy recommends this band; even attached an mp3 for me to see if I liked them.  The song she sent me was like 30 seconds long and sounded like a guy sharpening his axe to swing at some ethereal beings he had locked in a closet.  I immediately deleted it and put it out of my mind.  But then I got curious after seeing this band’s name pop up in some other places, so I did some investigating.

Well, I think Bootsy has some secret vendetta against these guys and sent me like an intermission track from their first album or something - because this band is awesome.  The song I am posting is from 2007, but I grabbed it for free on their website.  And the first time I heard it I kinda had a flashback to the Grey album (holla if ya feel that too).

Black Moth Super Rainbow - Happy Melted City Black Moth Super Rainbow - Drippers

Crystal Castles vs. Health - This is a track that Sydney C said I have to post, but with this disclaimer:

I don’t know if this uses one of those things (robotic assistance machines) but it is a sick track and sounds robotic…

I’m putting it up anyways, and I’m sure if we messed up someone will catch us.  Man, last Robot Round-Up I posted a Justice song that I thought was done with vocoders, and the backlash wasn’t pretty.

Crystal Castles vs. Health - Crimewave Crystal Castles vs. Health - Crystal Castles (Bonus Track Version)

Boys Noize - If you haven’t noticed we are now in the traditional dance robots section of the mix, we’ll slow it down soon enough.

The other day I was driving with Payam (not an author, but only because he only uses his computer for the three P’s - Poker, Porn, and Phacebook…damn) and he put the original Boys Noize Oh! on.  I thought it was a great track, but of course, you can always count on A-Trak to make it a little better.

Boys Noize - Oh! (A-Trak Remix) Boys Noize - Oi Oi Oi (Remixed)

MSTRKRFT - I guess this is kind of an obvious choice for this list.  Great track though and definitely thought it was worth posting in case anyone missed it.

MSTRKRFT - Easy Love MSTRKRFT - The Looks

Kioki (Hefner Remix) - I don’t know how many of you are familiar with the original Do and Don’t Do For Love song by Kioki; but think Barbie Girl, Eiffel 65’s Blue, or anything by the Venga Boys - kinda like a  little catchy track that no self respecting music connoisseur would admit exists.  BUT, I found this crazy Hefner remix that sounds like a Verve remixed track or something Cut Chemist might throw together.  It took me so long to find this track, so please enjoy it like a fine wine.

Kioki - Do or Don’t Do For Love (Hefner Remix) Kioki - Do & Don't for Love - Single

Mr. Hudson - I imagine if you know who this is you are aware that he had a hand in Kanye West’s new sound.  Not only was he featured on a track on the album and touring with Kanye, but he has also been making tracks with “Heartbreak” for quite some time.

I like Kanye, and I like Mr. Hudson, and you will too after about three seconds into this track.

Mr. Hudons - There Will Be Tears Mr. Hudson & The Library - A Tale of Two Cities

Bon Iver - If you follow music blogs (which I assume you do cause you are reading one), you probably saw this one coming.  I was pretty excited listening to For Emma, Forever Ago and hearing a faint auto tune towards the end of The Wolves (Act I and II).  But I thank the Bon for making this track, take that T-Pain!!

Bon Iver - Woods Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

One Night Band - I know what you are thinking, “Who the F is that?”.  Well I really couldn’t find a tenth song worthy of this list, but I wanted to make it 10 strong.  I could have thrown a filler in there, but then again, I did promise to bring D Rock back into the post.

About a year ago D Rock, myself, and another defunct Muffin author (Brian) got together and formed a band…for one night.  From the time we got off work till the sun came up the next day, we made four songs.  Being the visionaries that we were, we decided a concept album was the best way to go.  Our topic; the future.

We basically wrote a bunch of songs from the future, to the people of 2008.  Although we didn’t use any vocoders, auto tunes, or talk boxes - we did make a song about falling in love with a robot (which is going to be a huge problem in the future).  So for everyone’s embarrassment, One Night Band…

One Night Band - Robot Love Song
