Few hyphenated phrases make me as happy as “Electro-Pop.” The reason seems to be because 1) “Electro” generally means “glorious” and 2) because “-Pop” typically indicates “Eargasmic chorus.” If there was ever any proof of this, it resides in the pudding posted below in MP3 format. Either way, one of the true superstars of Underground Electro-Pop is back…for the first time…but really the fifth.

I know; I’ll explain.

Uffie is truly a citizen of the world. She was born in South Florida, spent most of her formative years with her parents in Hong Kong, then moved back to Miami with her mother—all in the first 14 years of her life. At age 15, after having actually been geographically stagnate for several weeks (gasp), she left Miami to go live with her father in Paris.

[SIDEBAR: Does anyone else feel like they aren’t traveling enough?]

Paris is where Uffie found her way into the music business. After meeting DJ Feadz at a party in 2005, she agreed to lend vocals to a song he was producing. That song would eventually become “Uffie & Me” and be released on DJ Feadz’s EP “Forward 4.” Later that same year, Uffie wrote and recorded “Pop The Glock” (also produced by DJ Feadz) and released it as her first single. The success of her first release landed Uffie a record deal with arguably the most recognizable name in the French music game, Ed Banger Records.

[SIDEBAR: I have no real idea why a young, beautiful, 88 lb. girl would ever utter a phrase as grimey as “Pop The Glock,” but since the song is hot I have been allowing it.]

After signing with Ed Banger, Uffie stayed on her grind and put out four EPs (“Pop The Glock/Ready To Uff,” “Hot Chick/In Charge,” “Suited And Looted,” and then the 2009 re-release of “Pop The Glock” with the remixes) in a span of just over four years.

That brings us up to date.

Now, a little bit about the music itself. Uffie’s style as we’ve all come to know it over the past five years has been a young, edgy, sexually explicit, “M.I.A. meets Lily Allen” journey, where gats pop off and punks who jump up get smacked down. I, for one, enjoy it. Taylor Swift makes that sweet stuff you can play at your niece’s birthday party, and real bitches like Uffie makes that gutter-ass Pop shit you don’t have to shamefully conceal with an alias when you put it on your iPod. On occasion (as shown in the SIDEBAR above) I will step back from Uffie’s music and question what in the hell is actually transpiring, but even though some of her messages are raw and unapologetic, it’s hard to complain when they sound so exquisite.

Uffie’s new EP “MCs Can Kiss” will drop February 1st on Ed Banger Records/Because Music. After what will be a grand total of five EPs, she will finally be releasing a mother-freaking full-length album titled “Sex Dreams & Denim Jeans” a couple of weeks after her “MCs Can Kiss” EP hits. Rumors say the release date will be Valentine’s Day; I say “Hurry the F-ck up.”

The good news is it appears Uffie’s debut album is going to be worth the delay. My contacts tell me it was produced in large part by labelmates Busy P, Mr. Oizo (“Ready to Uff,” “MCs Can Kiss”), DJ Feadz (”Pop The Glock”) and SebastiAn. I heard Cassius may have also lent production to the project. If you are familiar with those names at all, you are really excited at this point. Oh yeah, and Uffie got up with Pharrell Williams (yawn) to do what is rumored to be a monster track. The sweat now streaming from your palms and brow means you will soon be buying this album and defiling the defenseless speakers in your Toyota Prius.

Just as few hyphenated phrases make me as happy as “Electro-Pop,” few DJ/Producers send me into as severe of convulsions as Felix Da Housecat. Back in December when I saw he remixed Uffie’s “Pop The Glock” joint for the song’s 2009 re-release, I began preemptively calculating my hospital co-payment. As for my own personal health, it was “touch and go” for a stretch after my first few listens to Felix’s adaptation, but I am happy to report that I am feeling great at press time.

So there it is.

If you don’t know, now you (naaahhh, too corny),

I’ve been a big Uffie fan since she killed it with Justice. This is some mind blowing news!

The Todd – I wonder if you thought for a second that Uffie had hit the mainstream the first time you heard Ke$ha? I certainly did. I guess Uffie should be flattered?
