Morning Muffins. It is with great pleasure that I bring to you the first of a series of posts I like to call Train x Ace Reporter. It’s something a little different than what I usually bring to the bakery, but I think you’ll dig, so join me on this journey of vocals and visuals and let’s see what happens….
A little background: Once upon a time my friend Chris was the lead singer of an awesome band that went by the name of The States. After forming in 2002, the band embarked on an eight year musical adventure, culminating in a final show on January 21, 2010 at Southpaw in the BK. With the band on permanent hiatus, Chris began an ambitious project on January 1, 2010 – writing and recording a song (under the moniker Ace Reporter) every day for an entire year. Yes, you read that right, one new song every day for 365 days. In Chris’ words, “The 365 songs project is my answer to a year (2009) during which I spent almost all of my time “being a musician” — touring, promoting a record, twittering (!) — but very little time actually writing music. By the end of the year, I was so frustrated with the situation that I decided to do something Extreme. This project is a re-commitment to music on a scale that is frankly unreasonable and unrealistic. Last-minute panic will be a daily occurrence. Which means that it must be the right thing to do.” I’m a big fan of this project and am inspired by the sheer dedication it takes to do this on the daily. The songs vary by theme, style and substance every day, spanning from raw to rambunctious and everywhere in between, all while maintaining a soulful and stirring sonic presence – you’ll hear what I mean in a minute.
So where do I come in? Well, this year I decided to start a photo-a-day project. I’d never picked up a camera before and I thought it would be an interesting way to challenge myself to learn about photography. When I heard about Chris’ song-a-day enterprise I knew we had to collaborate somehow, and that’s why we’re here today. Train and Ace Reporter are going to be working together for a series of posts – the first of which is today’s which features pictures I took based on my interpretations of a few of Chris’ amazing songs. In the future we’ll bring you songs by Ace Reporter based on some of the photos he selected from my project, followed by a post where Train and Ace set a theme for a week and see what each other comes up. We’re excited about all of this and I hope you’ll enjoy – drop a comment and let us know what you think. I’ve rambled on enough though…peep the songs and pics below!
