From late spring to early summer Phoenix’s pop masterpiece Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix reigned supreme here at the Train Station.  The playcount numbers for this album in my iTunes are staggeringly absurd, so much so that I decided to take a little break from this self-inflicted sonic saturation.  However, my exile from the land of ‘1901′ was to be short-lived, as Phoenix got their King Kong on and absolutely dominated NYC last week.  First up was a set at the Apple Store Soho, followed by some ‘Listzomania’ action on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and, to cap it all off, two sold out shows with Muffin faves, Passion Pit, at Central Park’s Summerstage.  I was in attendance for the Saturday (9/26) show and let me tell you, it was a treat.  Passion Pit warmed up the crowd with a surprisingly long (12 songs?!) opening set, and then the boys from France took to the stage and killed it.  Having already seen them earlier this year I knew that they were capable of a fantastic live show, but they truly outdid themselves this go around.  Burning through a setlist that included jams from Wolfgang, It’s Never Been Like That and United, Thomas Mars & Co. had everyone in Central Park smiling, jumping, dancing and singing along under the stars (sometimes all at the same time).  The show ended with an electric performance of ‘1901′ and…well, I think you should just watch the video to see how loco the crowd went.  Oh, and keep an eye on the drummer, dude is a BEAST…

And in more Phoenix news, I recently found out that Wolfgang is getting the remix treatment via the aptly named Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (Remix Collection).  Out digitally on 10/13, this collection will find the current kings of catchy being remixed by the likes of Passion Pit, Friendly Fires, YACHT, Chairlift, Animal Collective, and many more.  I must admit that I’m not a giant fan of remix albums, but I like what I’ve heard from this collection so far…for the most part.  And by that I mean that the Friendly Fires remix leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion – but hey, what do I know, my name is Train for chrissakes.  Included below are a tracklisting, sample jams and a snazzy pic of the Wolfgang cover remixed and reimagined by yours truly.  Check it:
