Maaan, I have binging on some hip-hop lately. Between Yelawolf, Theophilus London, the ‘How To Make It In America’ mixtape and the XXL 10 Freshmen For ’10 list, my neighbors and speakers have been taking some serious sonic abuse. Don’t worry though, neither irate apartment dwellers nor slowly failing audio equipment will keep the jam train from slowing down my Muffin friends. With that said, I’d like to bring some bonafide heaters into the bakery courtesy of The Kid Daytona

My boy Dan first turned me onto The Kid, and since then the airwaves at the Train Station have been filled by the lyrical stylings of this underground up-and-comer. Is he really an up-and-comer though? ‘Tona has been in the game for a minute now – he got his Kobe on and signed with the pro’s (Atlantic Records) right out of high school in 2002, later left the label, and has been hustling on the independent ever since. The Kid dropped A Tribe Called Fresh, in 2008 and quickly made a name for himself with the project that reimagined and Daytona-fied some classic ATCQ jams, The Daytona 500 mixtape followed along with the first album, Come Fly With Me. Now, although Come Fly With Me is technically Kid’s first album, he still gave/is giving it away for free – you gotta respect that move.
Some ear candy from Come Fly With Me below for your listening pleasure. ‘Twilight’ is a synth-driven spectacle that not only has the possibility of being a great summer jam contender, but also drops a RDJ Tropic Thunder-related line in the mix. Sold. ‘In The Wind’ is dope for a few reasons: the s-s-s-stuttering guitar driven back beat, the epic strings that make the song sound HUGE, and ‘Tona’s stream-of-consciousness verses. You know the drill by now, so crank your shit and go fly with The Kid with the rhymes. The Kid Daytona; Train Tested. Muffin Approved.

This is some hot ish!!
Michael Jordan – Come Fly With Me
the greatest movie of all time
Haha – there’s a track on the mixtape called ‘Air Jordan’. I’m guessing ‘Tona is a MJ fan too…
Thanks for pointing this guy out, he’s pretty sick. It’s worth noting though, that the beat for Twilight heavily samples Chromeo’s “Bonified Lovin’ (Tough Guys).”
It is also worth noting that is Hot Dog’s favorite movie.
