Not so long ago Passion Pit/White Rabbits tickets went on sale via the one good radio station in Phoenix, 103.9 (although if you dig older music 96.3 and 103.1 will do the trick). They were an amazing 15 bucks and at one of the better venues around called The Clubhouse. Needless to say (which of course means I will be saying something next and that makes no sense but what the hell, it’s venacular) the tickets sold out promptly. That left myself in the dreaded position of ticketless. However, due to some suggestions made by fellow Muffiners I emailed Grace Jones, the rep for both bands from www.tellallyourfriendspr.com and it was a much needed success. Much thanks to Grace and the bands. You can follow her on twitter to check out the latest on a multitude of great musicians (gracejonesTAYF).
On to the show… The Clubhouse is known to us (slightly) older Phoenicians as the gambling haven for the horses with some underground sportsbettting on the side. I guess at some point while I wasn’t looking that went under and it became a music venue. It is a square room with low ceilings and a large bar in the middle. All I need brothers, all I need. The acoustics happen to be pretty killer as a result. White Rabbits went on before Passion Pit and the dual drummer system was intact to say the least. The place went nuts on about half their songs and the others were just as engaging. Flat out great show. Passion Pit was highly anticipated and did not fail to deliver. Their recorded music seemed like it would be difficult to carry on to the stage but they did superb work. Even the tracks Little Secrets and Sleepyhead sounded right out of the box. In the spirit of all those students taking their finals right now I give Clubhouse an A, both bands an A, and Grace an A+. Below are the songs that had the crowd freaking out the most (not me though, I tend to do the normal white guy stand there and nod my head move).
