Yeah it’s only April, but we here at the Muffin have already decided to bust out a ‘Best Of’ list for the ‘09. The airwaves in the bakery have been filled with an exorbitant amount of quality tunes in the last three months, so we figured we wouldn’t wait until December to lay ‘em on you. So without further ado, the Muffin’s Best of ‘09…so far:

Phoenix - Lasso

I know this is cheating since the album doesn’t come out until May. But take a listen and you’ll appreciate my reckless disregard for the rules. - Train

Matt & Kim - Lessons Learned

“Thinking about tomorrow won’t change how I feel today” - Sydney C

Swan Lake - Paper Lace

Another one of Spencer Krug’s side projects and notable Canadian indie supergroup has dropped a great album this year called Enemy Mine. When does this guy sleep? - Foote

Passion Pit - The Reeling

Whatever, if Train is gonna go ahead and cheat I’m throwing Passion Pit into the mix. I don’t mind them waiting for summer to drop the album though, I gotta blast something while driving through Malibu. - Frank

K’naan - Wavin’ Flag

Excellent song from an equally excellent album. Extra bonus points for making me want to purchase a flag. - Train

Empire of the Sun - Walking on a Dream

One of the most hyped EPs of 2009 - Sydney C

The Decemberists - The Rake’s Song

This album is the soundtrack to my subway ride every morning now. Hard to pick just one song, but this is definitely one of my faves. - Train

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Soft Shock

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Little Shadow (acoustic)

Possibly the best album this year, so far. Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Coachella, saweet. - Foote

I second this choice. And not only that, both Foote and I will be at Coachella. And even crazier, our names both start with F. AND Yeah Yeah Yeahs latest album is Fuckin awesome! - Frank

Writer - Start A War

Also kind of cheating here, this album came out at the end of 2008, but I still think 2009 is the breakout year for this local San Diego band. - Foote

Great Lake Swimmers - Pulling On A Line

Lost Channels is a new album from folk favorite, Great Lake Swimmers. - Bootsy
