Local Natives

I stumbled across two Local Natives songs today that I had never heard before.  After the initial excitement I took a look around the internet to see what was up.  As far as I knew, the harmonizing rockers had only put out a debut album.  Were these songs material from a second album or rather the scraps from Gorilla Manor.

It looks like the first song, Only Son, appears on some versions of the full length as a B Side, whatever that means.  But the second song, Clothed and Open Eyed, really seems to be absent from the ever-present eyes of Google.

Well, lucky for you the Muffin is here to give you an unexpected extension to your Local Natives playlist.  And if anyone knows the history of these songs, please let us know.

And if you haven’t done so, pick up their debut album Gorilla Manor, which is definitely going to make a handful of Muffin authors end-of-year lists.

Update: Turns out the songs were bonuses from Gorilla Manor.  Only Son is an Amazon bonus and Clothed and Open Eyed is an eMusic bonus.  No wonder the later is so hard to find, what the heck is an eMusic?

These are awesome! I don’t think I’ve even heard the band play these live before…..it is a (hopefully soon to be solved) mystery.

I can’t get enough of the Local Natives either. Today I learned that they were formerly known as “Cavil at Rest” and after consuming these posted song, I moved on to google the former band. Its fun to see what they evolved from.

Only Son is pretty old it’s actually one of the first songs I heard from them on a video on youtube when there was only like 10 videos of there songs up. I never knew there was a download so I’m really happy you put this up! I’ve never heard of Clothed And Open Eyed, it sounds more like there Cavil at rest stuff which is nice to hear :)

Hmmm, not sure about Clothed and Open Eyed being from eMusic. It doesn’t show up on my eMusic page for Gorilla Manor. You trust your sources? It’s so strange that more people aren’t pumped for these jams and blogging them more!

I actually just found these songs a few days ago on my own on youtube and I was so surprised that they had other stuff I’d never heard before. I also found another song called We Come Back. If you haven’t heard it, apparently they did it as a Christmas track or something? I’m not sure, but it’s a great song and you can listen to it on youtube. All of their music, including the Cavil at Rest stuff is fantastic and I’ve been hooked on them for so long now. It’s been great to open my ears to some “new” songs by them. =]
