“Whatever you do…don’t cut the red wire”
Namaste Muffins. Just stopping by the bakery today to give a quick shoutout to the newest band occupying the airwaves at chateau de Train – Red Wire Black Wire. R-dubs B-dubs (as I affectionately call them) hail from the capital of Indie-ana, namely Brooklyn, NY and have been making jams together as a six piece since first forming at Wesleyan College. Do I like them because their name references the greatest television show EVER made? Not gonna lie, that would probably be reason enough for me, but thankfully for all us the boys from BK have some music to back up the moniker. The five song Compass EP was released in 2008 followed by a full length album Roses & Robots late last year. The songs are dense, featuring healthy servings of strings, horns, guitars, drums and electro magic, and range from the speaker crushing ‘Breathing Fire’ to the soothing rhythms of ‘Tentacles’. Seriously though, my macbook speakers (if you can even call them that, does any laptop have worse speakers?) nearly shutdown out of protest when I blast the beginning of ‘Breathing Fire’, it’s all good though – it’s worth it. I think the band’s bio sums it up best: “the album sounds just as great on a lonely subway ride home as it does on booming dance floor speakers.” I think the next logical move is to bring some huge speakers onto the train(!) with me next time. Your move MTA.
I’ve heard these guys put on a great live show and I wanted to let all my New York City heads know that Red Wire Black Wire will be performing next Tuesday, July 6th at Mercury Lounge. Doors are at 8:30 but set time for RWBW is circa 10:30PM. Reasons to come: (a) obviously the music (b) Merc has the best Stella drafts in the city – I’ve conducted extensive research on this, and (c) I’ll be there ready to hand out high-fives to whoever stops by. Tix will run you $8 and can be purchased at the door. NYC Muffiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiins. Mount up.
