This article is going to blow your mind… But first, let’s talk a bit about Rad Omen’s debut album, Search Party and Destroy. First, you can pick it up for free at their website, there is an Amazon version as well, or you can pay $5 for a FLAC version.
The album is fire. When I first heard Rad Anthem, I thought their album just might be fire. And now that I’ve heard it, it is totally what I expected, molten lava dancy goodness. Okay, around the belly of the album it gets a bit too drum n bass – but the handful of heaters at the beginning and end of the album more than make up for it.
Okay, did you download the album? Good, now for the interesting part. Who exactly is Rad Omen?
Let’s just say if Happy Madison Films decided to start a record label, Rad Omen would be their first act. What am I talking about?
Well first off, Rad Omen has been pretty obvious about not having any bio information available and simply standing behind their motto “For We Are Many”. They do appear in their own video which has over half a million views, but are covered in make-up and costumes. In fact, they even went to Coachella this year AS Rad Omen. I even talked to people who saw them and just figured it was a bunch of goofballs dressed up simply in the spirit of the festival.
Would you believe me if I said the members of Rad Omen are in fact Benji Madden (of Good Charlotte), Dirt Nasty (Simon Rex), Peter Dante (that dude in every Sandler flick), and DJ Troublemaker?!?! Okay fine, here are some screen caps from their music video:
Another thing I noticed is that the video was directed by Nicholaus Goossen, who also happened to direct Happy Madison’s Grandma’s Boy. Hey look, isn’t that Nick Swordson as the stripper?
I’m not saying this is a bad thing at all – I think it’s fuckin’ awesome. Some heavy weights from Hollywood’s underground getting together to make some awesome music and visuals, and doing it somewhat anonymously. I hope this shit blows up!
