Namaste Muffins. Got a little something special for you today in the bakery, a giveaway from your new favorite band, PVT. Before I get to the goodies let me PVT you fine folks ASAP.

The band, consisting of Richard Pike, Laurence Pike and Dave Miller, hails from Sydney, Australia (sorry, I couldn’t resist) and have been making music since their 2008 album, O Soundtrack My Heart. Signed to Warp, they followed up their debut only 18 months later with their current album Church With No Magic, which was released on August 10th of this year.  I’ve only heard a few songs from the new album and let me tell you, they are jaaaaaam sandwiches. PVT are making sounds that are a melodious combo of rock and rhythms, synths and sonic leaps, keys and….and…okay, I can’t think of anything to keep the alliteration train(!) going, so I’ll stop right there.  The song that first caught my ears by PVT was ‘Window’, give it a listen below and read on for some giveaway goodness..

  4. Stox on Thursday 26, 2010

Great song. I’ve long wondered what would happen if Vampire Weekend and Nine Inch Nails made a song together……and then Aphex Twin did a remix of it. I’m definitely looking forward to hearing what else these guys have to offer.

  5. Jessica on Thursday 26, 2010

    GET IT

  6. fred on Thursday 26, 2010

  7. jef on Thursday 26, 2010

PVT was a huge influence on my band…and this song does not reflect that at all.

    HOWEVER.]]]
it is an amazingly awesome popsong enhanced by some immense electronic wizardry. the cutup vocals are catchy and immediately accessable/understandable. the vocals are impeccable and intense. i especially like the tempo change weirdness in the middle…totally catches me off guard. i am a huge fan of laurence’s percussion work and this track has some of his ‘signature’ rad rim/stick stuff which kills me everytime i hear it.

seriously, this band has helped me to hear new things in music that i haven’t heard in a long time. even/especially with their ‘single’.

  8. Sam on Thursday 26, 2010

Been a fan of PVT for a while now, well, since they were Pivot, and I have to say, I like the new direction they took with this and the new album. Who would’ve thought vocals could work so well in their music? It’s catchy, it’s creative, and there’s some truly awesome sounds going on in it! Up there for song of the year in my humble opinion!

  9. Alex on Thursday 26, 2010

Heavy as hell – It’s the bomb.
Best listened to through some decent headphones!
Ones that let you appreciate the Intricacy, and that bass <3
The levels are mixed perfectly, you can just get lost in it.
    Another great track lads.

  13. Michal on Thursday 26, 2010

Loving, loving, loving it. Downloaded. thanks muff.

  15. Brendan Telford on Thursday 26, 2010

i love these guys – they are incredibly adventurous – not one album has stayed the same course. Furthermore their roots – from Liars and Deerhoof to Konono No1 and Bjork – oozes experimentalism.

  16. Mark on Thursday 26, 2010

    Very Nice Sounds.

  17. Andrew on Thursday 26, 2010

Laurie Anderson is always a good way to open a mixtape. Also glad to see “Pulses” is included – really enjoy “Music for 18 Musicians” and I actually found that album on LP around the same time I bought Big Science – mixtape synchronicity.

  18. MIkey on Thursday 26, 2010

These guys are like so good, they’re like Animal Collective meets Battles meets curly haired audi debauchery. I lick them. That is not a typo

  19. Timothy yo on Thursday 26, 2010

Pretty cool to see Konono No. 1 on here… would love to hear some Congotronics influence in the new album, haha. STILL NOT HEARD IT – positively raging.

  20. John Rudduck on Thursday 26, 2010

Being a unashamed groupy/ niegh should say fan as my age and gender is not to spook. Seeing the guys first hand after an aganisingly long wait inbetween Brisbane gigs I was yet again blown away. Locked in the 80′s as well I may be , this track lets me linger there in the past but also transend me to a new era, well all inspirering. Thanxs PVT and to Richard sorry for accosting you at the bar after the show with a little (maybe to much slurry)babble.

  21. TIM on Thursday 26, 2010

take me home, please take me home, lawrence beats my heart like he beats his drum.

  22. Bec on Thursday 26, 2010

First saw these guys as the support act to a Gary Numan show in Melbourne. Loving their sounds ever since, and the new album is a fantastic leap forward. Favourite album of the year so far!

  23. Pav on Thursday 26, 2010

Bibio, Deerhoof, Liars Steve Riech; man Dave knows how to make mixtapes…. I WANNA

  24. Christian on Thursday 26, 2010

I love the idea of making a mixtape reflective of each song on the album!

  25. G14NT3 on Thursday 26, 2010

I have this song in all of my playlists on my mp3 player, and it has a way of having me sing the ” Oh IIIiiiIIIiii”. It kind of drops me off into the dark for one moment and that wavering moment of singing brings me back into the music. Really loving this track.

  26. P-Do on Thursday 26, 2010

For some reason, reminded me of a low-key, electronica version of Stabbing Westward. Great to add to the running mix. Could use a little more lyrics though.

  27. Rishi on Thursday 26, 2010

very cool song with crazy awesome sounds

  28. Alex on Thursday 26, 2010

  35. Will Wlizlo on Thursday 26, 2010

I work at a college radio station in Minnesota–and when I first saw the “Window” video, I was hooked. I hounded our music department for months, constantly checking to see if the album came in–and when it finally did, I practically forced it into our rotation. “Window” is one of my favorite songs of the year.

  36. acidAlex on Thursday 26, 2010

    Hi! Wanna hear cassette!

  37. Karen on Thursday 26, 2010

PVT always put together great collections of tracks that inspired them… I want one!
