Peter Bjorn & JohnI think the popular pompous indie attitude may have kept a few people away from Peter Bjorn & John‘s 2006 Writer’s Block. When you start to hear a song (Young Folks) on Top 40 radio stations and The Gap (not that I was in the Gap, but I know people who go there) you start to distance yourself from that band.

In late 2006 you may have heard yourself saying things such as:

I can’t believe you put this song on a mix cd, did you accidentaly burn a mix cd from 2 months ago?

If I hear that song one more time I’m going to totally switch back to listening to Oldies music again.

Is that motha fuckin Kanye laying rhymes of this song? Kanye has lost his damn mind!

Aside from the Kanye comment (little did we all know he had actually lost his mind), we were all feeling a little pressure in 06 to pass on Peter Bjorn and John. But for those of you that put your indie morals aside for a moment – you know damn well that album was amazing. Saving a little money, taking a trip to Amsterdamn? You can’t go wrong with lyrics lines like that.

Well, they’re back. And they dropped the whistling – although, I wish I was a fly on the wall when they delivered the demos to their record company and the execs didn’t hear any whistling.

And if you did have a good time with their last album, you’re probably noticing some familiarity with the new album. Which, if you listen closely, they do use a few melodies from the last album, even matching some of them with similar lyrics. But at some point they twist everything around, have different music, a harder hitting drum loop. You’ll see what I mean – its good stuff.

The album Living Thing comes out on March 31st, 2009.

Nice! Been looking forward to this album for a while now. I effin’ loved Writer’s Block – still listen to it on the regular. Also, that hook from ‘Nothing to Worry About’ is disturbingly catchy.
