The following has surprisingly received little coverage in the music world (maybe it’s just cause we’re in the US). But what I’m about to tell you may seem too incredible to be true, but I assure you, this is all real.
The story begins with a couple of DJs (Marc & Miguel) from Barcelona, Spain. Together they make up the duo Buffetlibre. Now, first and foremost, these guys make really incredible remixes of songs from bands like The Antlers, Little Boots, and Patrick Wolf.
Buffetlibre also likes to start really interesting music projects. For example, they have this thing called Batidora which looks to open up remixing to a wider audience and is especially impressive for their library of indie band stems. If you are an aspiring remixer and are scratching your head trying to find song stems that aren’t hip-hop, you need to get your browser to that above link.
But I promised to tell you something incredible, and although remixing for the masses is pretty cool, Buffetlibre’s latest project is a bit more… ambitious.
The latest project from the Barcelona guys is called PEACE (you have to yell it when mentioning it to friends too, don’t blame me, not my rules). The project brings together bands from all over the world to lend songs to an INCREDIBLY epic 180 song compilation. Yes, I said 180 songs!
They are only charging £5, which I have no idea how much… oh wait, this just in… okay, so it is like six bucks or something. Granted, you can donate as much as you want, but ‘squiggly mark’ 5 is the minimum. Yes, I said donate. Proceeds from the compilation are being donated to Amnesty International (which helps save the world and stuff).

So that is basically the deal, 180 songs from all over the world, six-something bucks, and you are helping to save the world.
Oh wait, I forgot to mention that the songs are pretty amazing. After downloading the compilation you’ll notice the songs are structured by location. For example, my first move was to check out North American, and then US. There are about thirty songs coming out of the United Stated, including remixes of The Antlers and Ra Ra Riot (which you can have a taste of below), and originals from bands like Princeton (Santa Monica what!), Thao + The Get Down Stay Down, and Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin.
The greatest thing about the compilation though is traveling the world from your iPod to discover great new artists you’ve never even heard of. I usually need a few listens to digest new music, which means I haven’t completed every continent yet, but this compilation has been introducing me to so much good music I never would have heard of.
There is a cool Plushgun (US, another new band for me) song on the album that Buffetlibre did a killer remix of. The remix isn’t on the album, but you can find it below.
Also, I would love to know if any of you found an amazing band outside of your own country on this compilation and if so, what was it?

awesome, awesome stuff. kudos to you for hunting it down, and muchos kudos to you for supporting it.
great work Frank, thanks for the head’s up on this
Oh wow, this is pretty awesome. Time to dig out a couple squiggly mark notes and scoop this up!
I haven’t listened to it all yet but Sweden’s Napoleon has a new track “Florida” that is all kinds of summer pop goodness.
Plushgun’s last album is also pretty good. A bit sugary at times but some definite jams.
