hot muffinsThe Left Coast is amidst a welcomed heat wave following a relatively mild summer and wouldn’t you know it, it’s just in time for Labor Day Weekend. Whether or not you are freshening up on your latest summer tunes at San Diego’s Street Scene or San Francisco’s Outside Lands this weekend, now is the time to make sure you have the freshest playlists in line for the holiday weekend’s BBQs and parties you will undoubtedly be frequenting. Nothing says “I am the King/Queen of Summer” like busting into a party, switching out the iPod that is playing the same tired tracks from 2008, and throwing on a set of songs that make people scream “ewwweeee”!

I am aware that this insight is not news to you and that is why you have stopped by The Muffin for a little help. Well we have been filling our watermelons with vodka and waiting for this opportunity to lend a helpful hand.

2009 brought us some great break-out bands and a whole lot of smashing remixes. So, without further ado, here is a batch of must have tracks on this summer’s “Labor Day Mix”. Also, feel free to let us know some of your “gotta haves” for the summer because by no means do we ever stop listening to your suggestions…

Digitalism - Taken Away (Gooseflesh Remix)

Dan Diablo - I Am Not From France (Louis La Roche Remix)

Empire of the Sun - Walking on a Dream (Kolt13 Remix)

Jack Penate - Tonights Today

Mayer Hawthorne - Maybe So, Maybe No

Miike Snow - Cult Logic

Oddisee - Song For That

Pheonix - 1901 (We Think Remix)

The Very Best - Warm Hearts of Africa (feat. Ezra Koenig)

..and as always, we post these mp3s so you can sample the music we love and have purchased. We encourage you to go out and support these artists by seeing them live or purchasing their music…
