So I was looking through my emails tonight and realized I forgot to respond to an email from Frank asking me if the new Muse album was good. The email was a couple weeks old. But here’s your answer: It’s good.

Muse’s The Resistance is pretty spectacular. Sometimes, you listen to albums, but you really don’t appreciate how much work and craft went into it, but with Resistance it’s hard to miss how much work the album took. You can really tell with the multi-track Exogenesis: Symphony that is broken down into three parts. It sounds like a full-on orchestra had crazy sex with the Muse bandmates and they made beautiful beautiful music. It’s awesome.
Resistance will provide Muse fans with what they love Muse for: their eclectic mixture of electronica, strings and rock, unique lyrics, and Matthew Bellamy’s epic falsetto.
(Speaking of loving Muse, the theme for Resistance seems to be love itself. Just take a listen; you’ll see.)
And yes, I know I touted Exogenesis but the standouts for me are Undisclosed Desires and I Belong to You. I’ll still give you a taste of Exogenesis, though. I’m not that mean.

The album is alright for a few listens but it really does not compare to what they’ve done. I respect Matt for trying to push the envelope but it’s just getting boring. Just my opinion. They are still great musicians with great ideas. I just don’t feel like it was executed well. Maybe the fact that Matt did not want a professional helping him with the arrangements for the symphonies resulted in the weakness of those tracks.
