Okay, not maharajas, but I needed a little something referencing the motherland to keep the alliteration going. But why Train? I’ll tell you why my Muffin friends – in a move seemingly conceived as a way to make both the Indian and the Indie-an in me the happiest man (men?) on earth, Mumford and Sons and Laura Marling have teamed up for a new EP mixing their musical stylings with that of Indian folk collective Dharohar Project.  The collabo came about during Mumford and Marling’s tour of India last December, a tour which found them performing with Dharohar and ultimately recording an EP with the group during a respite in Delhi.  Which reminds me – one time when I was just a little train I was chilling on the roof of some relative’s house in Delhi eating an apple, minding my biz, when along came a monkey who goddamn slapped me and then proceeded to steal my apple…..WHAT THE HELL random monkey?!? 15 years later and I still survey the scene for stray primates before digging into a golden delicious. Point: Monkey.

Okay okay, enough traumatic Trizzy childhood stories, back to the EP.  Good news first – the EP is a true marriage of music and the resulting songs are a beautiful tapestry of sounds steeped in traditions both East and West. Bad news – the EP is only available via iTunes UK right now and the band has no plans to release it stateside.  But don’t fret too much my American Muffins (English Muffins – feel free to celebrate), I’ve got you covered….kind of.  Peep the trailer for the EP below and take a listen to two of the songs from the project.  I also dropped in Mumford jam and a lovely Mumford cover by Ms. Marling for your listening pleasure. Jai Hind, and remember to watch your back next time you get your apple on.

People don’t understand how crazy those monkeys be gettin’! As for the music, a dream combination really. Love Laura Marling, obsessed with Mumford, and everybody secretly wants to be Indian.
