metric bandHave you taken the Yeah Yeah Yeahs new album to the top of your iTunes most played list? Are you looking for something new, but still as awesome? Well, boy do I have the band for you.

If you have been a follower of the Muffin since 2007, you may remember nugget’s post about Metric and how awesomely Canadian they are. Well, they are back, and even more Canadian. Just how Canadian are they? They went to college with the crew from Broken Social Scene – yeah, that’s pretty Canadian.

The new album came out earlier this week (or maybe it is next week, I don’t F’ing know). And I think anyone who follows music will immediately feel the need to compare this album to the latest YYYs offering. And this may be a bold statement, but if I was going camping and only had room for one of the two albums in my camo fanny pack – I would go with Metric.

Metric’s album has everything I want in a female lead rock group. First, the album is called Fantasies – and you’ll see once you get into the album that not all of the fantasies are the good kind…

…heard you fuck through the wall, I heard you fuck…

Add cussing to the list. Don’t be shy, we all like cussing female rock singers. And they’ve also got some cute stuff going on in the album too. Their lead single (which you can find below) asks you to choose between the Stones and the Beatles. I’m not saying that isn’t one of the lamest queries of all time (see: right below playing stairway to heaven at a guitar shop). But when Metric asks you in their electro bubble gum way, I immediately shout “Beatles!”

Oh – and one final note – when I first listened to the album I had accidentally sorted the album alphabetically. I even burned a cd and listened to it in my car thinking this was the actual order. I highly recommend this new and improved track listing. It gets a little weird with the acoustic versions of some songs coming on immediately before their electro counterparts, but Blindness is absolutely perfect as the opening track.

I lied, I have more final notes. Metric can also be found on Twitter @Metricband. They also have a website and MySpace and all that good stuff, but you know how to use Google right? I would make the links for you but I had a late night last night and am going to go lay down…

I can definitely see the YYY’s comparisons. These two songs are badass though, I’ll be scooping up this album f’sho on Tuesday. And yeah – I yelled out ‘Beatles’ too.

Finally got around to buying this album and then found this tragic video documentary about the making of Help I’m Alive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ii_lhpUUPxQ

That video is rad, and the singer from Metric wouldn’t get kicked out of my bed for eating crackers…
