Now you don’t need your boy Trizzy to tell you how good Sleigh Bells’ debut offering is – the album has been on constant rotation here at the Train Station all summer, so much so that I’m sure my neighbors (very begrudgingly) know all the words to it at this point.  Maybe I should start humming ‘Rill Rill’ next time we’re all at the mailboxes together and see what happens…impromptu hallway dance party? Anyways, the point is that I like me some Bells and when I got word from the homies over at Audible Treats that Metermaids were working on a Sleigh Bells remix project I thought to myself, ‘Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeit, this is gonna be dope.”

And now it’s here. Metermaids MC’s Swell and Sentence dropped Billy Mitchell Presents: Sleigh Bells this past Tuesday, and as an added bonus the EP is Free.99! Billy Mitchell should be familiar to anyone who has seen the I-don’t-know-why-I’m-watching-a-documentary-about-Donkey-Kong-but-now-that-I-am-this-is-kinda-awesome documentary, ‘King of Kong‘.  Mitchell was the Darth Vader to Steve Wiebe’s Skywalker, and as Metermaids explain it, “We named the EP after Billy because we wanted to come at it on some arrogant, awesome, in-your-face Billy Mitchell-ness. So, yeah. The EP, subject-wise, is not meant to be taken seriously. We know we are neither cool nor tough. This project is meant to be fun. Hopefully that comes across to people.” Message received good sirs…and indeed the EP is fun, in fact it’s FUNking awesome (sorry, sorry, I couldn’t resist)

You might have heard one of the tracks ‘Bedford Kings’ (Riot Rhythm remix) on last week’s Sunday Funday post, but I’ve got some more jams and a download link for the EP below.  ‘We Ztay Shynin’ (Treats remix) is an absolute neck snapper – creative sampling produces a rowdy mixture of boisterous guitars and headphone shattering drums that serve as the perfect backdrop to Metermaids’ tongue-in-cheek rhyme schemes. ‘Let It Burn’ flips the Bells’ ‘Rill Rill’ on it’s side using my favorite lyric of the song (yes, I realize that I got the lyrics wrong in that tweet, relax Judge Reinhold) as the battleground for Swell and Sentence’s verbal jousting.  A full Metermaids album is on the way it’s way soon but until then let the sounds of Brooklyn loudly collide into your eardrums. Metermaids: Train Tested. Muffin Approved.
