The first time I heard Manitoba mentioned was in the early 2000′s when the bitchiest girl in art school was bragging about her favorite band. I was so turned off by the delivery of her testimonial and I was not terribly impressed by the underwhelming electronic soundscapes of Manitoba.

Fast forward a few years to Caribou, the new name of Manitoba, after aging punk rocker Handsome Dick Manitoba threatened a lawsuit. The electronic tidbits that were regaled by the artiest of art students have been left behind for a full rock band playing a swirling psychedelic maelstrom that I’m proud to have finally taken note of.
