magnet.jpgI admit, I don’t know too much about Magnet. I found him while browsing the new albums that came out last week on iTunes. He is a singer from Norway that sounds like he may fit in well with the Jason Mraz and Matt Costa crowd.

Because he is from Norway and doesn’t seem to have much exposure in the US, I can’t give you much info, so I’m going to spin this blog post in a completely different direction and you can have a listen to his music at the bottom.

Earlier today I was searching the internet for a record store to go to. Downloading music online has been my main outlet of finding music since I was 14. But, when I was a bit younger I enjoyed going to the local record store (Salzers in Ventura) and being in the flesh, with others like me, trying to find something new.

Music blogs are great, and these days its the best way to find out about new stuff. But it seems like we’re getting disconnected from the real world by it. I mean, I read a website, listen to a song, download the album from a website. I never have to leave my chair. Well, today I wanted to leave my chair…

But it seemed like I would actually have to take at least a twenty minute drive to find a record store. Where did they all go? We are all aware of Tower Records going out of business nationally. Aren’t the big chains the ones supposed to put the mom and pop shops out of business? What happens when the big guys can’t even stay afloat.

I offer no solution. I’m not even sure there is one. I guess, what I’m really trying to say here is… if anyone knows of a cool record store on the westside of Los Angeles, frank@audiomuffin.com
