Yeah, I use Twitter.  I am by no means a typical user though.  I love reading the interesting and music industry lovelies constantly leaving the Twitter Train Station.  But I think I have this jaded, cynical block that just makes me not give that much of a fuck.

First, I only access Twitter through the web interface – I know, total n00b right?  My next step is to usually do a vanity search to see if anyone has said anything with my Twitter name in it – of course they haven’t.  Then I look at – maybe – the first five Tweets that happen to be on the front page after I log in.  Oh, and I definitely yell at Los Angeles Gourmet Roach Coach’s when I have good reason (and yeah Komodo and Comcast, you are now being called out on the Audio Muffin).

I actually do a decent job of trying to follow cool record labels and bands.  And today, that habit totally paid off when one of the five tweets I randomly read was from Beth Martinez of the public relations agency Danger Village.  She has brought a lot of cool bands to our attention before (Pretty Good Dance Moves, Truman Peyote, Cassettes Won’t Listen, etc.).  In fact, if you are into finding shit that no one has heard of that will blow peoples minds I might take a look at their roster some time – as although I can’t confirm this, it seems Beth only promotes bands she deems worthy of promotion.

So yeah, I see that Tweet among a handful of other nonsense Tweets – because even though I try to follow people who are entertaining, even entertaining people have to throw in the occasional, “I just got cut in line at Starbucks and am sooo angry.”  Right, I know, who gives a fuck.

I love new music more than anything else in the world and was totally ready to go back to iTunes if Magic Man had a 2007 anywhere on their website.  But check this out – their album dropped TODAY!  Or maybe yesterday, sometimes at the Muffin we write from the future!

Magic Man is definitely an album band.  Sometimes I feel like I am taking advantage of the bakery readers when I post a couple solid songs from a band that only has a couple solid songs.  But today, my friends, I give you something that will give you a full 43 minutes worth of great tunes.

Magic Man is in the same electro-pop vein as Postal Service, Animal Collective, Pretty Good Dance Moves, and Discovery.  Their beats carry the songs with a quick demanding pace, synth pops and crackles.  The bass lines are snappy and will have you bobbing your head at a consistently fast pace.  And like some of my recent favorite bands like Fanfarlo, Local Natives, and Freelance Whales the lyrics are complicated, flowing, and catchy.  The lyrics of Magic Man are strong and have that epic anthem sort of feel that make you sing along and feel like you are approaching some sort of awesome end.  Great music to play in the car on your way to a weekend party.

The history behind the band is rather interesting; Sam Lee and Alex Caplow met and wrote much of what you hear on their debut album in France.  They then returned to the US to complete the album.  And with so much great electro-pop coming out of both France (ummm can you say Phoenix) and the US (Vampire Weekend, Passiot Pit, etc.) you couldn’t ask for a better place for this album to come from.

I will end this post with the best part about Magic Man – their album is available for free at Bandcamp.  And like I said earlier, there is no need to go through each track to find the heaters – just download the whole album, it is boiling hot.

P.S. Sorry for the low-fi Twitter graphics, I wrote this at Starbucks (my first adventure as being that guy).

P.P.S. Yeah I said Vampire Weekend was electro-pop.  Don’t hate.
