Lissie’s voice is a sweet grit that scrapes at the side of your heart. I’d never heard of her before until she performed at KCRW. Watching her Live in the Studio completely blew me away. Until just recently, her tracks were nowhere to be found online, and I’ve watched the streaming video many times over as a result.

While I was standing there in that studio that first day, I couldn’t help but think about the original grit of Kings of Leon, and the days when my friend Joseph first told me about their album, Youth and Young Manhood – We sailed the skies of 2003 to visit our friend Joel in the big town of Los Angeles for the first time ever. If that dude (from Kings of Leon) would lose the tude and get together with Lissie for a duet, there would be a sure competition for who could first make me feel it enough to wanna punch someone in the face!!! Am I crazy to draw this comparison? It could be totally personal. Perhaps it would be more complimentary to mention that she channels a little Melanie for me as well.
