It’s finally here….kind of! Seven months after the teaser for the Spike Jonze helmed Where The Wild Things Are set the blogosphere ablaze with hype, the movie is almost ready to grace the big screen. Now, I think it’s fair to say that any trailer featuring Arcade Fire’s ‘Wake Up’ would have garnered a lot of attention in the indie-verse, but coupling the song with Jonze’s vision of Maurice Sendak’s classic seemed like a match made in heaven to me, but I digress…Preceding the opening of the movie (out 10/16) is the release of the highly anticipated soundtrack, out yesterday (9/29), which features the work of the lovely Karen O and The Kids. While ‘The Kids’ does in fact refer to actual children who sang with Ms. Yeah Yeah Yeahs on a few songs, it also refers to the small battalion of musicians who signed up to get their collabo on for various other jams on the soundtrack, including Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox, YYYs bandmates Nick Zinner and Brian Chase and the Dead Weather’s Dean Fertita, to name a few.
I’m not gonna lie to you fine people of the Muffin (I would never do that), I’m super excited for this movie to come out, and hearing the soundtrack only made me that much more amped. If I were more mathematically inclined I would say that this project appears to perfectly capture imagination + innovation + innocence + indie inclinations….but I’m not a mathematician (only an amateur alliteration artist), so don’t complain if that doesn’t make sense. I have a smattering of goodies for you below, including a tracklisting, a short vid of The O getting her jam on, a full album stream, and a Tweet-to-win some random Wild Things gear contest. Oh yeah, there are also some songs somewhere in the mix for you to get your groove on to. So let the wild rumpus start Muffiners, let the wild rumpus start…
