Nabokov would be proud (…well maybe, who knows what kind of music that guy liked). Lolita is a jam though nonetheless. Someone on iTunes stated these guys reminded them of The Kinks. If you add in some neo-electronic synth sounds then I’m in agreement. Throw Me the Statue hails from Seattle, WA and is headed by multi-instrumentalist Scott Reitherman. The lineup also includes Casey Foubert, who worked with Pedro the Lion and Sufjan Stevens. Sounds like a killer combo. By the way, do you guys remember when those crazy kids on Saved by the Bell were throwing the Elvis statue around the house and broke it? Maybe that is how they got their band name.

Moonbeams was completed in 2007 but was picked up by Secretly Canadian records in 2008 and released in mid-March. I am ready to say that the album is definitely as good as the Clearly Canadian beverage and that stuff was delicious. Every so often I hear some Neutral Milk Hotel on the record which is never a bad thing. Seeing them live sounds like a delight because the record label states “Reitherman has rounded up a group of talented musician friends from in and around the Northwest for his live band, aiming to give Moonbeams an extra shot of adrenaline onstage.”

My favorite tracks are all at the beginning of the album but I think it ends strong with the last song Moonbeams. Maybe these guys know about the primacy-recency effect. The record has an array of sounds and carries that swell poppy vibe. I am thinking the weather is getting right for these guys. Concordia Discors
