Moonbabies Old PhotoI have been in such an indie rock kick lately, its awesome. I usually tend to gravitate towards the slower, more acoustic stuff. But, trust me, when you’ve had a long day at work, and you’re finally off – you jump in your car and blast… Mason Jennings? No way! You gotta have something that you can turn up so loud that people stopped at a light next to you turn over and stare.

So I’d really like to thank Ginny and nugget for starting it this month with some awesome posts. If you haven’t checked out Vampire Weekend or mgmt you are way behind.

So I’m going to take a stab at it with The Moonbabies. Who just came out with an album aptly titled, Moonbabies at the Ballroom. And they do a great job of what I love about indie music, have rockin tracks, but aren’t afraid to experiment. And now for a brief rant…

I grew up in Southern California listening to KROQ and Y107 (please reply to this post if you remember that station). And recently I’ve noticed that I only listen to Indie 103.1. Now, you’re right, this may simply be because my tastes for music have changed. But I think not. I’ve also noticed that much of the media around the music industry is focusing their attention on a handful of bands that are only being played on Indie.

It seems to me that Indie music is quickly becoming Popular music. I turn to other stations playing rock and they are either desperatly trying to get more plays out of old stuff or showcasing the latest band that a dying record label major pieced together.

And I’m not the first to talk about the change in the industry towards electronic media. Radiohead gained a lot of attention for releasing an album online by themeselves; but they weren’t the first and won’t be the last. Read any blog about the internet and social networking to find out that we are here, waiting and ready.

So with the combination of Indie becoming popular and Web 2.0 ready to become its new distributer, it will be interesting to see where this all will go. Okay, enough of that, time for you to hear some awesome songs.

Oh, and please note that this band shares the lead singer between the guy and girl in the band. I just choose two songs only with the guy singing because I liked them the best. But the chick is awesome too, go get their album and find out for yourself.
