The latest band dominating the airwaves at the Train Station is Apollo Ghosts. I don’t remember how I heard about these guys, but I found myself on their Myspace page a few weeks ago and, in a move that could only be described as fortuitous, ended up purchasing their debut LP, Hastings Sunrise.  Since I always like to know a little background info on my iPod tenants I headed to the nearest Google machine to get my research on and was surprised to find little to no results for the Ghosts. Here’s what I managed to piece together – they are Amanda Panda, Jay O and Adrian T from Vancouver, B.C.; they may or may not be signed (the heading under ‘Record Label’ on their Myspace simply reads ‘Who cares…’) and only 300 copies of Hastings Sunrise were pressed (download cards still available). That’s it.

But who really cares about a bio – let’s get to the good stuff. Their sound is soothingly familiar yet still distinctive, fresh and (dare I say it) fun. It’s new wave meets indie rock meets your mother. It’s a little bit of The Virgins with a sprinkling of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, all with a hint of terra firma. Ultimately, it’s jam after jam after jam.  There may not be a lot of information about Apollo Ghosts floating out there at the moment, but keep your ears and your eyes peeled, I have a feeling you’ll be hearing plenty about them in the ‘09. I don’t know if things just sound better when they are on the Muffin – but it has been awhile since I’ve liked something with this kind of lo-fi quality. Totally reminds me of the first time I heard a Strokes bootleg around the time of their first album dropping.
