Halloween in Muffinland? Fuck yeah. And to start things off here is an exclusive track from Felix Da Housecat. He’s going to be debuting the remix at LA’s biggest rave of the year, Monster Massive, on Halloween night. So if you’re on the westcoast of the US and you haven’t made plans, get your dance-happy ass over there and rock out with the coolest cat in electro.
Felix Da Housecat - LA Ravers (Club Remix)
And now that we’ve wet your whistle, here are some more Halloween songs as chosen by the Muffin staff.
This song seems so obvious that I am slightly embarrassed that my friend Bregan had to suggest it to me. Although she said it was by “Lily Allen or some chick.” That some chick is Kate Nash, but she’s got a point - who can tell the difference really? The song is not scary at all and if you think putting this song on at a Halloween party and dressing as a skeleton is going to get you laid; you are totally wrong. - FRANK
From one of my favorite freshman release LP’s in the past five years, With Love and Squalor by We Are Scientists, I have chosen “The Scene is Dead” as my title track this Halloween. The band’s use of rapid distorted electric guitars and haunting bass lines make this a perfect addition to any Ghouls and Goblins soundtrack. Not to mention, with Halloween comes Halloween parties and this song captures my sentiments perfectly, “Come on, you can’t go home, the night is young, I’m blacking out, but it’s been fun.” - B
We Are Scientists - The Scene is Dead
Lupe hauntingly weaves a tale of ghouls, gangstas and ghosts in this jam from his first album. Dead man digs himself out of his grave, returns (in zombie form? see: “only thing on his brain was brains”) to his old neighborhood, only to *spoiler alert* get shot again by the same guys who blasted him the first time. Damn. No candy corn for that guy this year. - Train
Isn’t the title enough? Let’s ALL die? Proclaiming that “Death will be our only friend” this song is scary and scary depressing. Penate asks that we don’t cry when we die, ’cause ya know…everybody dies. But he then tells us ” out of the womb and into the tomb.” Crazy zombie shit? Yeah? Who knows, it’s probably way deeper than an allusion to 28 Days Later, but if he didn’t want us to think that, why tell us to push our way out of our mom’s vagina into a pit in the ground? Anyways, it’s an awesome song, that even with it’s dark overtones, is still fun to sing along to. Who knew singing about death and dying could be such a blast? - Pee
This song makes me think of Halloween because the original version has been KILLING every dance floor in the world over the past several months. And if that were not enough, this remix sounds like it was co-produced by Satan (see: the chorus at 0:59). - The Todd
Major Lazer - Pon De Floor (Dirty Monkeez ‘Ghetto Monkz’ Remix - Feat. Vybz Kartel)
This just seemed absolutely fitting and Tim Reynolds is a bad ass. - werD
Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds - Halloween (Live at Luther College)
See: Song Title. - Hot Dog
Too Short - Freaky Tales
There is only one halloween song and that’s monster mash. It should be played on repeat. No arguments. There is no debate. I’m dead serious. - Sydney C
