Band names are one of the more fascinating enigmas in music. Recalling my stickered-out guitar days of college, my good buddy and loyal drinking companion and I formed what could be considered, in musically challenged cultures, a band of sorts. The name of our band, which was best known for its hit singles; “Beer Revolution”, “I Ain’t Friends with no Terrorists”, “Ode to the Chode” (never recorded) and a remix of Vampire Weekend’s “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” which incorporated the Indie Yacht Party concept, was Two Drunk Guys. Granted our title was not an enigma, it was actually quite an obvious choice at the time. Simply put, it was nothing more than another way of referring to our alky inspired duo. Either way, we embraced it and whatever the hell came with it (usually taco fights and aggressive progressives) and thats rock and roll.

A name that is a bit more compelling, which led me on my previous rant, is that of Good Old War. Band mates Keith Goodman, Daniel Schwartz and Tim Arnold creatively used pieces of their last names to comprise what has become more than just a name for their band. I first heard about this PA trio from a friend in LA and have been looking for more since. Not my typical go-to-genre of music, but you can’t ignore talent (mama taught me that) and its important, when you work in a bakery, to have eclectic taste.

The guys have put out a couple EPs and a full length on Sargent House in late ‘08 or early ‘09 called Only Way To Be Alone. The guys are currently gallivanting around with Circa Survive pleasing audiences across the US. Take a peak at this live video, courtesy of Pink Couch Sessions, for their song “Coney Island” -

You will have to excuse the recording quality from our Two Drunk Guys original, I am pretty sure it was taped with one of those speech recorders reporters use. This is it’s internet debut as it has been in the archives for some time now. Its terrible, but I love it and so did all those drunk people we played it for. Stay tuned….more Two Drunk Guys music might make its way to The Muffin someday.

I appreciate the use of “aggressive progressives.” I also appreciate the cover. Nice work here, B. Now, come to LA so we can form a government.
