Sounds like…… “A Robot making Love to a Tree.” (Turner and Behrens, Ghostland Observatory)

Not to discredit the influential brilliance of Daft Punk, but the musical world finally seems ready to embrace some new styles. Electro-dance/rock bands are blowing up all over the place; MGMT(audio muffin covered), Yeasayer and The Pinkertones to name a few. Ghostland Observatory will definitely be included in those among the top to redefine this musical genre. Their songs portray what seems to be an inner battle between their love for electronic beats and synthesizers and a passion for rock and roll. What taboo would say are two very different musical pathways have now found themselves trapped in a very small room and being forced to get along. Who would have guessed such an amazing sound could come from the harmonizing of what was once two musical foes? Apparently, Aaron Behrens and Thomas Turner had few doubts.

Ghostland Observatory really started building their water-cooler talk potential in their hometown of Austin, TX and have had some break out performances at Austin City Limits and SXSW. Austin360 named them the band of the year in 2007, they have appeared on Conan Late Night and landed a nice piece in SPIN magazine as well. 2008 finds G.O. touring the US and waking up venues at every stop. For our California faithful, here are some upcoming dates to plug into your BlackBerry’s.

04.17.2008 San Francisco, CA The Mezzanine $20.00

04.18.2008 Los Angeles, CA The Music Box at Fonda $19.00

05.15.2008 San Diego, CA House Of Blues $20.00

Its nice to see these Texas country boys rocking out the stage, experimenting with new techniques and constantly working to make their own next best song. Their latest and greatest comes to us in the form of their third album release on Trashy Moped Recordings, Robotique Majestique. Synth pop has arrived.
