fun. We’re assuming Nate Ruess from The Format found a solution to his dog problems, as his new band simply wants to have some fun. Literally. And in the spirit of keeping his band names a difficult search on Google - the new band is called Fun. (with a period at the end).

I’ll admit I’m a little broken hearted to hear that Nate put an end to The Format. My buddy Papa Lenke and I first got into the band from an acoustic EP released with tracks from their first album. This Ep was really just Nate and his guitarist Sam Means. In fact, many of the lyrics mentioned Sam and what a strong friendship they had.  But when I took a look at the line-up for Fun. Sam was noticeably absent.

I asked Google what happened to Sam and Google didn’t even know.  Now before I get started lobbying soy milk companies to put Sam’s photo on the side of their products - can someone out in Muffin land help me solve the mystery of Sam Means?

Anyways, back to the music.  The band is called Fun. and based on their first single, they aren’t kidding around.  But if you are familiar with The Format’s Dog Problems album you are no stranger to the rambunctious, Broadway musical, exciting music that Nate is prone to produce.

But this time around (at least on the first single) they have added a female vocalist to the group.  So now we’re talking the crazy energy and musical flourishes of a Sufjan Steven record, mixed with the amazing vocals of Nate from the Format, and now we’re including a little Postal Service style female accompaniment.

Take a listen to the below song and I’m sure you’ll be hooked for their upcoming fell length album.  Although, I have no idea when it is coming out and can’t find that press release they sent me.  I’m also gonna post a Format song because I love them.

Fun. - At Least I’m Not As Sad (As I Used To Be)

The Format - If Work Permits The Format - Dog Problems (Bonus Track Version)
