Tunng

What started as a couple guys in a basement studio, one with resounding electronic talent and a real ear for the cleanliness of sound, the other a folky singer/songwriter exploring the freedoms of musical meaning while looking to fit his sound into some defined shape, so developed and manifested itself into what is now Tunng. Tunng has become a project based on the depths of sound, the blending of vocal harmonies, a jingle a stomp a laugh. I guess thats what you would have to expect from a couple of guys who splattered a variety of styles and combinations amongst one another’s ears downstairs from a clothing store in SoHo for years and years.

Their sound, at least in order to be played live, needed more elemental figures. Mike Lindsey and Sam Genders carefully sought out their complimentary members Ashley Bates, Phil Winters, Becky Jacobs and Martin Smith until Tunng was whole. Tunng was live.

After pumping out a couple albums, the band took shape and continues to build as a solid indie staple in the UK. Their most recent release, Good Arrows (2007) received positive vibrations from ear and pen. Songs like “Bullets” demonstrated the groups versatility and depth. Tunng’s members are still in tact though pursuing some other individual projects at the moment. They have upcoming shows planned in the UK (nothing in the States, yet..) and we can only hope that more tunes are on the way. Get Good Arrows Here!
