Today is my 25th birthday. And I decided that I would contribute today, thinking that I would have something meaningful to say and share. It’s a weird feeling turning another year older, I mean, we’re all constantly aging and moving forward towards whatever destiny awaits us. But it’s always on the actual date you were born that you have to sit and take stock of where you’ve been, and where life seems to be taking you.
My plan, the one I just came up with, is to find the most meaningful aspect of my life and find some songs that embodied this area. I thought about it for awhile, in turns of what most people my age hold dear to them, love, career, friends, hobbies, etc. And I pondered even more on what holds the most meaning for me right now, what about me is unique and special to only me. What is my love?
I guess the answer seemed easy, and I tried to find something else, but it came back to my first thought. I’m working on a screenplay. I often shy away from mentioning to people what some friends and I have been working on for the last few months. It seems embarrassing almost, I think for the most part due to the stigma (maybe just imagined by me) of a group of friends tinkering in a room somewhere, crafting something like a garage band, hoping to one day make it big. But that’s really it, I’m writing a screenplay hoping to make it big.
So for the song selections for today, the answer is easy. Throughout the conception and writing of our screenplay we compiled a list of songs, that if we got to make the movie, would compile the soundtrack. It became a great motivator, every day when we started working we would play the mix and get into spirit from the past session, and into the mood of the story.
Now, don’t be fooled by the sullenness of the music, we are working on a romantic comedy. But with every story of love, there are its ups and downs. Many of the songs on the mix we made have already appeared on this blog, but here are some of my favorites from the mix, that personally, will always remind me of this time in my life…at 25.
Regina Spektor -Lulliby (off Songs)
Travis - Hidden Track (off The Boy With No Name)
