The debut EP from First Rate People has been spinning on my iTunes quite a bit lately. They are an eight piece upbeat group mixing genres like electro, funk, pop, and r&b. They hail from Canada and their catchy tunes switch between bubble gum female vocals and indie inspired smooth male lead.
Their tracks are great simply for their poppy and groovy tracks. To sum it up, try to listen to their music without bobbing your head. You might even end up snapping your fingers and doing a two-step.
Their lead single is a song called Girls Night that reminds me of head-bob phenomenon seen in early nineties hip-hop. Not to say that there is any hip-hop elements involved, but it still gives you that warm fuzzy feeling that makes everyone in the car smile and say, “This is my jam.” And don’t be fooled by the Cindy Lauper style song title, this is a gender-nuetral heater.
According to their MySpace page they are currently unsigned – talk about unsigned hype. And unless you live in the great white north, you’ll have to settle for MP3s as their tour hasn’t left the Maple Leaf as of yet.
At this point in the article you may be wondering what is up with the Coachella graphic on the right. Well, as B reported, the rumors are true and the Audio Muffin will be throwing a party this year at Coachella. And much like Coachella itself, we’re going to be releasing more details as the date draws near. But if you are planning on visiting California’s desert this April, be sure to check the Muffin Coachella page for details, and Fan us on Facebook to be up to date on details.
