The music of Faded Paper Figures sounds like a love story that you know only happens in movies, but at one point – maybe when you were a bit younger – you believed it existed. I can’t think of a movie that fulfills what I’m trying to describe, but its a movie where the writer has taken great care with every detail so that it all fits in place to bring about a conclusion of absolute magic and awe.

Each song paints a vivid portrait of each scene of this movie, using popping electronic sounds and the soothing back and forth of a male and female singer as the brush. You follow these characters through optimistic wonder and apprehension as they slowly make their way towards each other.

And I know what you’re going to say, “This sounds like Postal Service.” And you’d be right. And maybe you’ve turned a bit elitist in your indie music mentality since first hearing Ben Gibbord and Jimmy Tamborello teaming up with help from the chick from Rilo Kiley. You may have even been cool enough back then to respond to your friends interest in Postal Service with a casual, “You mean the group with Dntel and the guy from Death Cab? Yeah, its kinda neat.”

But walk with me out into the grass covered hill of your childhood imagination. Lay down, stare up at the shifting clouds, close your eyes and just listen. I’m sure to see a smile crack between your cheeks as you fall into the imagery, the lightheartedness, the magic.

You can pick up Faded Paper Figures latest album, Dynamo, on iTunes. It isn’t a brand new album, but once you have given it its proper due and are yearning for more, your granted wish is coming soon.

John from the group says that after a brief period of living their lives (which includes everything from the expected side projects to teaching at Yale), the band is getting back in the studio with an expected EP release in September. The five song EP will be called New Medium and will be self produced back on their home turf in New York.

You can buy Dynamo right now on iTunes.
