My Irish and Norwegian roots don’t necessarily provide me with a family tree full of rhythm, but I’ll be damned if the Ocote Soul Sounds don’t get my ass movin’.
Last week, the handsome gents at Learning Secrets Music slipped me the newest offering from Ocote Soul Sounds and it certainly provided the auditory gluttony for my Thanksgiving weekend. I’m still stuffed.
The new full length ‘Coconut Rock Deluxe’ arrives on December 8th and it’s got all kinds of stocking stuffers to keep you busy. Check it some of the details on their ESL Music site The band’s 3rd album is super solid from top to bottom and comes with 5 new exclusive remixes (one by my previous post subject – Ancient Astronauts), a video for the song “Coconut Rock”, and a full digital booklet. The list of adjectives I could use to describe the sounds that come pumping through the speakers on this digital masterpiece is long and distinguished – I feel like I could only do it true justice by speaking in funky foreign tongues. Each track is packed with a unique blend of bass, brass and a wild variety of percussion. The tangled web of international sounds would provide appropriate ambiance for dinner on a yacht in the mediterranean, a subway ride through New York City, a coffee shop in Melbourne or a surf scene somewhere tropical and spanish speaking. It’s an absolutely terrific flow of sound and rhythm.

The band is hosted by the musician/producer duo of Martin Perna and Adrian Quesada who stylishly step out from the shadows of their big bands; the legendary Antibalas and the Grammy nominated Grupo Fantasma, to lead us on another journey deeper into their trademark tropical psychedelic sounds. It’s obvious they’re very talented chaps and I can only imagine there’s plenty of more to come. Now quit reading, have a listen and get to gettin down.

No dinner on a yacht for me, but I’ll be jamming to this on the NYC subway – great on-the-way-to-work music.
