Summer is approaching. Though the weather here in Southern California – and I am presuming across this country of ours – has not signified a guaranteed right of seasonal passage, it is undoubtedly nearing April and that blows my mind. With the changing of seasons, we have much to look forward to. Summer romances amongst park dwellers and picnic-goers, Manhattan roof-top Ray Ban sponsored vodka tonic water fights, sandy crevices and fresh fruit. More importantly, however, Summer will bring us a variety of new albums (some more anticipated than others) and some scorching tours through our local venues.
One such album that sits atop my summer sundial is the (mid-2009) scheduled Sunset Rubdown album Dragonslayer. Now, if you follow my posts, I am sorry, but you will know that I have a little thing for side-projects and Canadian music. This album suffices by both measures so I am stoked. Sunset Rubdown is the side project for Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade (and from Montreal/Quebec).
Dragonslayer is set to drop in June. For now, all I can suggest is that you put it on your list, a suggestion that has been backed by several other news mediums, including a favourite (canadian spelling) of mine, Under The Radar Magazine, in their Anticipated Albums of 2009 issue.
Dragonslayer (2009) will follow up their 2007 release Random Spirit Lover. Spencer Krug is a very talented dude and he likes to push out albums. I wish others shared his efficient work habits/impatience (Julian Casablancas). Here are a couple doo dahs to get you in the mood for Summer and for whats to come.

Best news I’ve heard all week, I had no idea they had a new album in the works – when does Spencer Krug sleep?? Also, ‘Taming of the Hands’ is spectacular jam, still gets a spot on my pre-game playlist weekly.
