Hello, boys and girls. What it do? The Chemical Brothers released an album in July that is, well, there really isn’t any other word for it: badical. “The Salmon Dance,” on said album, caught my attention because of its overall dynamism, but also because of a strange dialogue in the song between Fatlip (of the legendary Pharcyde) and Sammy the Salmon (a tragic fish, destined to swim upstream and die where he was spawned, whose voice is reminiscent of those strange, synthesized voices in A Scanner Darkly). The combination of a sick beat, humorous dialogue between Fatlip and a salmon, and very retro-sounding samples make for a truly amazing song.
There are basic instructions in the song on how to do the dance. Basically you pretend like you’re a salmon floating up stream, throw a snap and a little 2-step in, and you’ve got it.
Put this song on at a party. See what happens. There is a strong chance that, by the end, everyone will be dancing like a salmon floating up stream.
