Recently, I find myself saying ‘dirty bass’ to people around here a lot.  I want to put it on everything. I keep walking into venues to find this doll of a girl hiding behind a mess of flat shaggy art bangs and a fella standing on top of a fog machine cloud…. popping out gritty hip hop beats on keyboards; looping & slapping guitars. I likey!

I’ve applied my best internet searching skills to get my ears on every golden thing that JamieX has ever touched. So, it was interesting to find this video – acoustic – sans beat machine – and learn that it these two still do it for me.

Here is their first rap performance from the FIFA favorite K’Naan.  The quality of his voice really shines in this stripped down version of a few of his songs.

Here are the Avett Brothers, Bootsy may not like that this is NPR (she’s a KCRW gal), but I know she’ll love this performance.

And keeping in mind the tiny desk theme, you have to see how silly, yet amazing, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ performances become.

Here are some tunes form Phoenix. And if you’ve seen them live lately, you’ll know how energetic their stage show is. It is cool to see that even acoustically that energy still comes off just fine.

And finally, here is one of their earlier performances from John Vanderslice. John’s albums are very produced and are mostly electronic instruments, yet here he is with a full band holding acoustic instruments.

And since this is Sunday Funday I’m going to take a step back from the intimate performances and give you a couple tracks I’ve been dancing around the office to.

But I do have to admit that the three-minute plus Nike commercial is probably one of the coolest things to come out of sports advertising in a while.  I die laughing everytime Kobe Bryant makes a three and then does the soccer shuffle.

And speaking of that commercial, the song behind it is called Hocus Pocus from a band called Focus.  You’ll have to do your own research on that one, because I am more interested in what the guys from Buffetlibre have done with the track.  Buffetlibre of course are the remixing powerhouse Marc & Miguel from Barcelona, Spain who are responsible for the PEACE project.  Listen below for another killer remix from the duo.  Be sure to put it on during your World Cup festivities to keep you enteretained in between goooooaaaaaaalllls.
