Buddy ShowA few of the Muffin authors and myself went to see Buddy on wednesday at the Hotel Cafe. I first heard about Buddy on iTunes and was surprised to find out he was a fixture at a spot in Hollywood.

The lead singer of Buddy, also named Buddy, was dressed sharply with a sweater and dress shirt poking through. He had a keyboardist, very indie looking with unkept facial hair and a vest covered button up. A very pretty Tamborine girl sang backup vocals. The high-light was the guitarist who looked like a young Meatloaf wearing a thin Meatloafs skater outfit. I think his name was Percy and he danced his ass off to even the sappiest of songs. There was also a black drummer who I could only see his hands from where I stood, and also a bassist who I didn’t see at all (fitting that it was the bassist).

Don’t get me wrong; all these qualities joined together made an awesome visual to compliment some really great music. They even managed to carry some really great energy throughout the show - all this while singing… well you’ll see at the end of the post.

Contrary to the style I’m writing this in, I fucking love Buddy! They fit nicely into the slow quirky acoustic driven music I like. And the keyboardist even throws in some weird notes in there that could be hints at electronica? Okay, maybe not.

I did feel a little weird when I first got to the Hotel Cafe, and was sippin’ on some alcohol with just Brian. Looking around the room I could see it was mostly filled with young men, all waiting to hear the same sappy music I’ve found myself a fan of. Thank god Feli and her friends met up with us, I was almost going to have to re-evaluate where my musical tastes had driven me.

Oh, and I was originally going to dedicate this post to Jennie, my biggest fan (she’s really only a casual reader, but its the best I’ve got). I was going to dedicate this post to Jennie because she had put the Sea Wolf song I posted on her myspace page. And I was going to dedicate it to her because I thought Buddy kinda sounded like the same vibe as the Sea Wolf song. But Jennie didn’t go to the concert with us, so guess what Jennie? My so called biggest fan. You’re out, no more Buddy or Sea Wolf sounding posts from me. You’ve ruined it for everybody.

Applications for my biggest fan are being accepted now.
