For music lovers, listeners, or simply people who don’t like silence in the workplace, weeks come and go as do the songs that get you through them. Now, to the people that throw on KROQ and zone out for 8 hours, this insight may not be for you, but for those of us who actually rely on certain songs to drag us through those treacherous weeks, you can relate.

The psychological premise of this post, though very shallow in its nature, aims to re-affirm the general consensus that our lives are like a soundtrack. Certain songs engulf our current state of mind or emotion and when played simultaneously, even heighten those feelings. Certain songs stick to our brains like peanut-butter and we cannot seem to shake ‘em. Finally, some songs are just so fresh and so excellent, you can’t seem to stop replaying them. The following five songs are my weekly addictions that I wanted to share with eager ears:

Mat McHugh - Loneliness

Mat McHugh is the lead singer for The Beautiful Girls, a stellar Aussie trio. He released his first solo album Seperatista! which came out in late 2008. Buy the album here!

Mos Def - Auditorium (featuring The Ruler)

Mos Def just dropped his new album, The Ecstatic on June 9, 2009. Buy the album here!

White Lies - Death (Crystal Castles remix)

White Lies new EP entitled Death is a testament that this band has a bright future and with a Crystal Castles cameo, you know I’m happy. Buy the album here!

Friendly Fires - White Diamonds

Audio Muffin covered band that has produced one of the best albums in the last year in my opinion. Buy the album here!

Funeral Party - NYC Moves to the Sound of LA

I think this East LA band sounds great as a result of studio production, but live, they are going to need some serious development. Either way, this song is a jam. Myspace!

B-B-Bonus Jam (Train am I cool enough for that?)

Actually, my dog Duke died this week and its been pretty rough. I know he is at peace now chasing squirrels in doggy heaven. This song is for him because Bob was his favorite. After 16 years, I’m pretty sure I know what type of music my dog liked.

Bob Marley - So Much Things To Say
