First, we need to announce the winner of the Where the Wild Things Are contest. And let me say that I didn’t think about it at the time, but “Send us your childhood dream stories” is kinda like asking you to write creepy, bizarre things on our blog – for which you did not disappoint.

We choose the winner at complete random (or if you believe in fate, then Kate the human random number generator is your lucky charm). And by YOU I mean Brooke Elmi. Just for the record here was their childhood dream:

I dreamt that I went down into the basement of my house, but instead of being the dark scary basement it really is, there were all these tunnels connected to it and a huge aquarium in one room with glowing fish. Then I went upstairs and looked in the drawers of my room and inside were all the things I had ever lost.

For those of you that are monogamous blog enthusiasts with only the Muffin you should have seen this post and lost your shit. The rest of you are probably aware that Toronto’s three-piece Born Ruffians have announced a new album.

When Sydney C first brought the Ruffians to the attention of the bakery in April 2008 they seemed like a pretty unknown band. And for an album that led my iTunes play count for that year, I was surprised to find little hype after the release of their first album.

I must assume that since there has been an incredible amount of hype since the announcement of their sophomore record that it simply took people a couple years for the “ohmygawd you have to hear this band” to spread across the land. With good reason I must add, both Sydney C and I had Red, Yellow and Blue as our #2 best albums for 2008.

Born Ruffians are a three-piece band, and with that said, you should probably check out a live video of them when you get the chance to see how crazy it is for them to make such interesting music.

Instrumentation aside, I think I am most looking forward to the lyrical content of the new album. For those that didn’t sleep on the first album, the songs range from fantasizing about running your own country (Red, Yellow Blue) to strange tales of family arrangements (Hedonistic Me).

The new album will be available June 1st, and yes they have continued their tradition of playing with cut-outs for their album art.

I’ve also included a Four Tet remix that will sure to get a handful of plays on your walkman. I love the new Four Tet album, but their remixes are absolutely insane (does anymore remember their remix of Sia – whoa!).
