Most of my selections have come from the most honest source I could resort to – my iTunes playcount. A few electronic dancey songs sneak into my life here and there, but below are the albums from 2009 that garnished full repetitive rotation.

Bombadil – Tarpits and Canyonlands This fella named Bryan emailed me one day and asked me to check out his NC band’s upcoming release. It got stuck on repeat and I’m still in love with them, and I really wanna hang out and compete for the longest shout. Buy it! |

The Avett Brothers – I and Love and You! In 2008 I fervently declared that I’d like to have a new Avett Brothers album every year…. and they didn’t let me down in 09. They came out big time with the Rick Rubin produced album. I don’t want to argue y’all. I’m happy that they have made new music for me again. The play count on my iTunes is almost embarrassing. Jessica Lea Mayfield – With Blasphemy So Heartfelt! I can’t think of anything that I’ve enjoyed more in this past year, than long drives with the soul of this little singer/songwriter and the emotional depth and the melo-tragedy and the passion of the dispassionate. Buy it! |

First Aid Kit – Drunken Trees These young ladies have harmonies that make me die inside. I first discovered them through the acclaimed cover of Fleet Foxes Tiger Woods song. It was hard to get my hands on this album, but it finally became available stateside. I’m pretty sure these women have big careers ahead of them. Buy it! |

Discovery – LP So this isn’t folk music at all. But as it turns out – this album saw a ton of repeat play time. Pretty sure this made it to my ears from Frank via B. Thanks AudioMuffin. It’s Ezra from Vampire Weekend with some RaRaRiot friends and its so so so SO INSANE. Buy it! |

The Discovery album is one of my favorite albums of the year too – I’m just waiting for ‘So Insane’ to start playing at a grocery store so I can get my dance on….
Love Discovery, too. One thing, though: It’s Rostam, keyboardist/producer of Vampire Weekend, plus a dude from Ra Ra Riot. Ezra only appears for the song “Carby.”
Nice list. I especially enjoyed Tarpits and Canyonlands this year.
I just posted a contest/giveaway for a download code of I And Love And You over at my place. Thought your readers might like.
Haha @Edward, I totally knew someone was gonna call ya on this one.
Love this list. Is the original First Aid Kit album really that good? I was waiting on the next release, but I guess I’ll check this one out if you put it in the top 5.
Just got the Avett Brother’s album a couple days ago; I am totally and completely loving it! It’s making me want to find myself a NC man, lol.
Just came across Bombadil again, God that longest shout contest is so on Bootsy!
