Ben Folds A Cappella University

Someone asked me about the Music Scene in NC on my travels last week and it was funny what came spewing out of my mouth. I guess I was in the mood to reminisce so I mentioned a few bands that no one would’ve ever heard of and well – just completely forgot that we rely heavily on the fact that Ben Folds is a NC native who has evolved with the Indie scene over the past two decades. He never really fails me and if that recent little ditty with Regina Spektor wasn’t enough to remind me of that well – I love what he is doing now.

Ben Folds’ most recent project is a released collection of A Cappella versions of some of his greatest hits from college groups across the nation. StereoGum quickly caught my eye with their selection of UNC-GREENSBORO’s Spartone’s rendition of “Not the Same”. Hey – that’s my school!!

Also, let me just state for the record, that I’m a complete retard for A Cappella renditions of pop songs and have amassed quite a collection of them. I have had some seriously involved fantasies of my wedding day being a huge A Cappella ceremony, a montage of all my most favorite poppy folky emotionally charged ditties that have been my journey through life and love…. And everyone has a part and we all sing in perfect harmony. That is beautiful and completely realistic right!?

So, here ya go – a taste of the album for you!

I think that guy who is doing the beat boxing asked me for a quarter yesterday on the Santa Monica Promenade. And after I said no, he walked away doing just like in the video.
