If for some strange reason, I was asked to put a formula in an excel spreadsheet which would equate to the Band of Skulls, it would go something like this : Band of Skulls = sum(Cold War Kids, a strong cocktail, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Karen Q, 2*hip thrust, Jack White/6 years). I am not a scientist, but that looks pretty damn accurate.

Now, I will not discount them for being included on the latest Twilight sequel soundtrack (because that would be the obvious approach), instead I will keep it positive by saying that their debut album has presented us with some vigorously potent tracks that wreak of solid production and hint of something thats just getting started. Band of Skulls hail from the UK (Southampton to be precise), where Russel Marsden (guitar, vocals), Matt Hayward (drums) and Emma Richardson (bass, vocals) met in college. The bands original name was Fleeing New York, once they all probably realized how, for musicians, its pretty hip and trendy to spend time in NYC, the band name became erroneous and skulls made their way into the picture. According to their bio, the band is two singers and three song-writers to which they accredit much of the band’s potential.

The band is in its youth, only about one year old and Emma Richardson is attractive. I find a need to point that out. I still don’t understand Twitter or ‘tweeting’, but I will provide you all with the link to ‘Twit’ (usage?) Emma from Band of Skulls as a courtesy follow-up to my previous statements. All in all, you can expect to hear more from and about the Band of Skulls either here on The Muffin or somewhere far less credible.

Here are a couple sample tracks from their 2009 release, Baby Darling Doll Face Honey as released on Shangri-La.
