Unfortunately, I won’t be partying with the masses this weekend in Indio. Life put me in Santa Barbara instead and with a bit luck, Thom Yorke’s life happened to do the same and I couldn’t be happier. On Saturday April 17th, just prior to headlining the Sunday evening festivities at Coachella, Atoms For Peace will be blowing the minds of the 805′s finest at The Santa Barbara Bowl. Mr. Yorke fronts the band and is joined by Nigel Goodrich (also of Radiohead), Jay Waronker on drums, Flea on bass and Brazilian percussionist Mauro Refosco thrown in there for good measure. The crew made their first live appearence last October in Los Angeles and have now put together a string of gradually larger performances in NY & Chicago tuning up for the desert gig. This week they’re headed to Oakland on the 14th & 15th, down to Santa Barbara on the 17th and finally COACHELLA on the 18th. The first handful of live performances were based mostly on Thom Yorke’s Grammy nominated solo project – The Eraser – but rumors of new material have surfaced recently, which is pretty damn awesome. Enjoy the whole weekend kids, please be safe and don’t eat the bad acid.
