So I know, I know, this post probably should’ve shown up like a month ago, but I’m a poor, busy, college student. What more do you want from me??
Anyways, despite being about a month old now, Athlete’s Black Swan is still on constant rotation on my Creative (yeah, no iPods for me), and for good reason.
Black Swan after a two year hiatus since Athlete’s last album still retains its same charm. A lot of the songs carry this pattern of starting out like a catchy little jingle and it slowly layers itself with more guitar strums, drum beats, and keyboard beeps. It’s like one tasty melodic sandwich that just keeps getting’ tastier and tastier.
I’m a long time Athlete fan, so you may have to take my opinion with a grain of salt, but Athlete did a great job with Black Swan. I admit I do prefer Beyond the Neighbourhood a bit more, but in no way does Black Swan really disappoint (plus the album art is pretty sweet).
If you get the deluxe edition of Black Swan it comes with a bonus disc with seven extra tracks that are a little more acoustic-y. Included on the bonus disc is the acoustic version of “Black Swan Song” which I actually like a lot more than the regular version.
I’ll post you a few songs to get prepared for Athlete’s awesomeness.
Also, if you’re a Brothers and Sisters fan, make sure you watch an episode in the last season where they play You Got the Style. It’s an oldie but a goodie.
