Melancholic melodies and a haunting girlish voice are all part and parcel in the music of El Perro del Mar, the one-man Swedish band of Sara Assbring (who is friends with spectacular fellow Swede, Jens Lekman).

Whenever I hear this Swedish bird sing her best song “God Knows”, scenes from David Lynch’s debut film Eraserhead tend to spring to mind; in particular, the one where all action suddenly desists and an odd interlude showcases a chipmunk-cheeked girl singing inside of a radiator (which sounds bizarre, but is by no means the strangest scene in the film — for those who have seen it, you know what I’m talking about).
