One of the best scenes in Trainspotting happens in the middle of the Scottish landscape. Instead of enjoying the outdoors the lead character rips their ancestry and country of orgin. Immediately after they decide to end their short lived sobriety…
Wild Light’s California On My Mind reminds of this sentiment. I think for most people the concept of home is a love/hate relationship (see Thomas Wolfe). Now I know there exists a large portion of the Audiomuffin family who are from or reside in the great state of California. Nonetheless, I have feeling that even those who live in a picturesque place still have days where they would take the first train out of Dodge if given the oppurtunity. Thus, please do not be offended by this specific tune. For the rest of us, just replace “California” with whichever locale you deem appropiate.
On to the band, Wild Light is a 4 peice from New Hampshire. Their formation is somewhat complicated but a couple of the members spent some time in Arcade Fire before forming the final product. They have been featured in Spin, Rolling Stone, and the rest of the majors however it wasn’t until my buddy Max played them full blast while on a mission to Prescott, AZ that I got wind of their talent. Thus, if I am late to the party consider it fashionable and carry on…

Speaking of Trainspotting, I always thought the following song would be perfect in a movie scene. Playing as a character arrives home after visiting his version of Mother Superior. It just seems to capture that dualistic feeling right after the score, infinitely happy to be miserable. Plus, the title fits if you pick up what I’m putting down.

I think those guys must have been trying to find parking. Fuck San Francisco!
Ahh you finally featured these guys!
Saw them live over here in Los Angeles, they have so much energy live.
I’m cool with this sentiment at times and I don’t even have home town hate for CA…!!!
