Plushgun is absolutely one of my favorite bands. Fronted by Dan Ingala (an NYU alum–holla!), Plushgun is a rising indie electronica trio. Their music is fun with a high level of dance-ability and lyrics that roll of your tongue in just a couple of listens. Plushgun recently released their debut album Pins & Panzers and it’s ten tracks of wonderful.
I’ve seen them only three times, but two of those performances I actually got to meet the members and they’re as approachable as their music. Last year I saw them in Madrid (it’s not as obsessive as it sounds) and the tiny Cafe La Palma was packed with an assorted group. Lots of english-speakers and ex-pats mixed in with some Australians and native Spanish. The music brought out the good in the crowd of veteran listeners and newcomers, everyone singing along and jiving. At the end, I added a signed drumstick to my collection of memorabilia. If a concert like that doesn’t show how fun and accessible this band is, I don’t know what does. Well I guess I forgot to mention that the members are facebook friends with a lot of their fans, too, including me. Yeah, we’re on that level. Sometimes I’ll even like their statuses.
Anyways, the main point of this post is Plushgun’s newest music video (above) for “A Crush to Pass the Time” off of Pins & Panzers. It’s seriously an awesome video. It’s split into four segments. When you click play on the first segment it tells you when to start the second segement and so on. I was pretty skeptical at first of how it would work but it’s really sweet. When synched correctly people are dancing, streamers are strung across the four video segments, and balls are flying everywhere! I’ve posted only the first and fourth parts of the video so you can get a taste of how the video looks because it should be seen with the first segment stacked on top of the fourth segment. Plus I couldn’t figure out how to get the second segment to stay adjacent to the first. SO, the best and easiest way to see all four segements laid out like it should is HERE.
Check it out, if not for what you hear, just for the fun you’ll be feeding your eye-mouths.
I’ll leave you with two of my favorite songs by them:
