hotchip.jpgTo make a long story short, because Time Warner is really eager to control all information coming into my home, I just got a free phone line. Like most people of my generation who have not yet settled down like we’re supposed to and possibly live with a roommate rather than a spouse, I only have a cell phone. My roommate only has a cell phone. Most people I know only have a cell phone. But now, we have a LAN line.

We don’t really need a LAN line, but it actually is costing us less to have it than not. But anyways, that isn’t very interesting in and of itself. The really cool part is the number that we got. It is (310) MADONNA… No, that’s not true. That would be better I guess, but I wasn’t really expecting anything special. It would be my first 310 number, which is an area code here on the westside of Los Angeles. I guess I admit I was a little happy to finally have a 310 number, little did I know that I would be getting two. What’s that you say? That’s right, my new phone number begins (310) 310. And it even gets better, the last four digits are simply 3232. How easy is that?

When the guy was installing it we actually had a bit of a language problem when he was trying to tell me the number (he just kept waiving a pen in front of my face). So when we finally got down to business and he recited the above number to me as I dictated; I gave him a look like, “really, you think I needed to write that one down?”

So now I feel like I am now responsible for this gift Time Warner has given me. With a number that easy to remember, we have got to set up and answering machine and post the number somewhere strange. Let me know if anyone has any ideas (yes our comments are still working). Also, don’t even bother calling that number above, we don’t have a phone yet.

Oh, you want to hear some new music? Fine. A little departure from what I usually post, but I’m really digging the new Hot Chip album. It has some genre-bending stuff, some electronic stuff, and some general silly stuff. But overall, its really good music. But don’t take my word for it..

one of the better pranks we ever played was putting a fairly kinky personals listing in one of those free magazines that they hand out on college campuses, like “ad sheet” or something. he got several dozens of phone calls in the days after “his” listing was published.

also, i’m sure if more than thirty people read this site, you could put up a paypal donations link and raise enough money to get an ad on a bench outside a liquor store for a month or something. i’ll match the donations 50/50 up to the cost of the ad for a month assuming i have veto power on the copy.

Damn you robot posting on our blog!

But anyways, yeah Hot Dog, I love that idea. When I was in college me and my buddy Puh had an idea to rent out a bench ad right next campus. The ad would be Puh laying down in his underwear with the text “Come lay with me” next to him. The problem then is the same as the problem now, cash. I looked yesterday and you have to buy a minimum of five benches for a month. Which is like $1,500. So that seems a little steep for a really awesome joke. Back maybe there are cheaper ways to advertise.

love hot chip. the bench ad idea is okay…. you could just go to all the phone booths and public bathrooms and advertise bjs. That’s what I call viral marketing.
